The exchange is designed to be an undergraduate-only exchange. Special circumstances for interested graduate students can be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Yes, but this will need to be determined on a case-by-case basis.




Can advanced undergraduate students take graduate level courses?


No

http://catalog.colum.edu/ Choosing classes is part of the application process. Once an application is submitted and accepted, the student will be put in contact with an international student adviser.




Required minimum and maximum number of credits available through the exchange.


For both undergraduate & graduate: Min = 12 credits (undergraduate) & 9 credits (grad)
Max = 16 credits (undergraduate) 15 credits is the most common.




Are summer courses available as exchange (non fee-paying)? If so, what is the website?


No




Do students register for courses in advance or upon arrival?


In Advance: Students do not register themselves. We register them for their courses based upon their preferences and in working directly with the students.

By the end of November. Students will be registered for classes by the study abroad office. Material submissions are October 15th.




Language Requirements


English




Is a language test certificate required? If so, is it required before admission or upon arrival?


An official IELTS score of 6.0 For IELTS test information, visit www.ielts.org.
An official TOEFL score of 540 (on the paper-based test) or 270 (on the computer-based test), or 76 (on the internet-based test). For TOEFL test information, visit www.ets.org.




Are there preparatory language courses for incoming students? If so, what are the dates and costs?


Currently, no such program is available.




Are there any special advising or registration concerns that students should be aware of? Are services available to assist in registration or course selection?


We register them for their classes based on the information they provide. Incoming students do not register themselves.

Student Life

Is housing assistance available? Is it guaranteed? How do students apply?


On-Campus Housing is provided to incoming exchange students and application materials are sent upon successful nomination. We make great efforts to ensure that housing on-campus is available.




What are the housing options?


On-campus dormitories plus apartments within walking distance of campus. Students can choose to pursue off campus and will be sent a general guide about housing in Chicago.

Do students apply for housing with their university application or is it seperate? Is there a deadline?


Separate application which is available only after the regular application is completed.




What kinds of health facilities are available at the university?


Health Center




Are internships available?


Internships are not guaranteed, but services are available to students.




Are student jobs available and permissible?


Conditional upon the terms of their Visa, but yes it is generally available for J-1 recipients.
